When I heard that there would be an American version of Absolutely Fabulous (AbFab), I thought “Oh no, sweetie…” Turns out now we don’t need to worry about an American AbFab remake because Fox has decided not to pick up the series after viewing the pilot. Not to be a complete naysayer - after all, I didn’t imagine that an Americanized version of The Office could work, but it did - but who can match the comedic gold of AbFab’s Jennifer Saunders (Edina Monsoon) and Joanna Lumly (Patsy)? The American AbFab was to star Kristen Johnson as Patsy Stone, but I still can’t see this 90s comedy translating for U.S. audiences. Do you think an American AbFab would have worked?
